B to Z Guide to Becoming Your Own Action Hero update 10.7.09

So I finally completed my first step in becoming my own action hero!

Work Out – Meet Standard Police Fitness Requirements

Time to put in work!

Time to put in work!

Old Standings

300 meter run: 62 seconds
Push-ups (1 min time limit): 35
Sit-ups (1 minute time limit): 38
1.5 mile run: 15:07

So since doing the last test about a month ago, I learned a thing or two.

First, I called my good po-po friend and found out I have to do the sit-ups in the most agonizing way possible.  That is, with your hands locked behind your head and elbows out.  Are you kidding me?  Who still does that?  Didn’t science already determine that’s the absolute worse way to do a sit-up or is that just my neck talking out it’s neck?

Yea, thats probably about 90% of his body wieght.

Yea, that's probably about 90% of his body wieght.

Then I found out most states don’t even count push-ups anymore, they do bench presses.  You’re suppose to be able to lift 90% of your body weight.  Good thing I’m a Paris-Hilton-on-steroids weight of 165 lbs.  I could do that about 5-10 times…I think.

Finally, I discovered (or rather remembered) that the most important technique to running is proper stride.  No alligator steps.  You know, when your panting like a dog with Vick in it’s rear view mirror and you really wanna fall out so you start taking those baby steps and chugging your arms like a choo-choo train.

Yea, that doesn’t help.

It takes even more energy to do 1,000 baby steps then it does to do 500 long strides.  I think it has to do with momentum, but I ain’t Bill Nye the Science Guy.

You never know when a pull up is going to save your life.

You never know when a pull up is going to save your life.

With all that said, and a month of training here are my New Standings:

300 meter run: incomplete

Pull-ups (without resting): 8
Sit-ups (1 min time limit): 41
Push-ups (1 min time limit): 45
Bench press (1 rep max): 175 lbs (106% body-weight)
1.5 mile run: 11:55

Yea, I know.  I really wanted to get that 300 meter time down, but the truth is I just couldn’t get my lazy ass up on the weekend to go to the high school again.  Actually that’s not true.  I really just didn’t have the heart to ditch my wife with the baby like I do on weekdays and go out and do my own thing while she struggles to rest in peace.

I will run like the wind. Like the wind, I say!

I will run like the wind. Like the wind, I say!

But I will get to that 300.  Oh don’t you worry.  With the weather getting cooler, I don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to beat the sun.  That 300 meters is gonna get beaten down within an inch of it’s life!

But in the mean time I get to tackle C next!  C is for cooking and that’s good enough for me, hey!
